Effective date: July 18, 2026 · Last updated: July 18, 2026
One Light International, Inc. (“One Light,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an Islamic education and dawah charity. We built this website to share our mission, welcome those who want to learn, and make it simple to support our work. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit onelightinternational.com, why we collect it, how we handle it, and the choices and rights you have. We treat the information you give us as a trust, and we hold it with care.
This policy applies to onelightinternational.com and to the online forms and donation pages we operate. It does not apply to third-party websites or services we link to, which have their own privacy policies.
The information we collect
Information you give us directly. When you choose to interact with us, you may provide personal information. This includes your name, email address, and any message you send when you use a contact or inquiry form; your name and email when you subscribe to updates or a newsletter; and the details you submit if you apply to volunteer, serve, or partner with us. You decide what to share. If you contact us, we keep the correspondence so we can respond and follow up.
Information related to donations. When you make a gift, you provide the information needed to process it, such as your name, email address, billing address, and donation amount. Your payment card or bank details are entered into and handled by our payment processors, not by One Light. We do not collect, see, or store your full card number or bank credentials on our website. We receive a confirmation of your gift and the limited details needed to acknowledge it, issue a receipt, keep proper charitable records, and stay in touch about the work your generosity supports. More on our payment processors is below.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we and our service providers collect some technical information automatically when you visit. This may include your device and browser type, your approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you view, the links you follow, and the dates and times of your visits. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies, described below, to keep the site working and to understand how it is used.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website places on your device. We use them for a few purposes: some are essential and allow the site and its forms to function, and some help us remember your preferences.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, including refusing or deleting them. If you turn off cookies, some parts of the site may not work as intended. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent to non-essential cookies before setting them, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
How our donation processing works
Our donation pages are operated through trusted, industry-standard payment platforms so that your financial information is handled securely by specialists, and never stored on our own website. Depending on how you give, your donation may be processed by:
- Stripe — see Stripe’s privacy policy
- PayPal — see PayPal’s privacy statement
- Donorbox — see Donorbox’s privacy policy
When you donate, the information you enter on the payment step is provided to and processed by the applicable platform under its own privacy policy and security standards. These platforms are responsible for the protection of your payment details. We encourage you to review their policies to understand how they handle your information. One Light receives only the information needed to record and acknowledge your gift.
The other services we rely on
We use a small number of service providers to run this website and communicate with supporters. These include our website hosting provider, our email and newsletter service, and the payment platforms named above. Our email updates and newsletters are sent through Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) — see Mailchimp’s privacy statement. Messages you send through our contact form are delivered to our inbox by Web3Forms, which receives your name, email address, and message for that purpose alone and does not use them for anything else. These providers may process personal information on our behalf, only as needed to provide their service to us, and are expected to protect it.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to operate and improve the website; to process, acknowledge, and keep records of donations; to respond to your messages and requests; to send updates, appeals, and news about our work when you have asked to receive them; to consider volunteer, service, and partnership inquiries; to keep the site and our supporters safe from fraud and abuse; and to meet our legal, tax, and charitable-reporting obligations. We use automatically collected information to understand and improve how the site performs.
How we share information, and how we do not
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade donor or subscriber lists.
We share personal information only in these limited situations: with the service providers described above, so they can perform their function for us; when you have asked or agreed for us to do so; when we are required to by law, or in response to a valid legal request; and to protect the rights, safety, and property of One Light, our supporters, or the public. If One Light ever undergoes a significant organizational change, information may be transferred as part of that change, subject to this policy.
Some information about our finances is reported publicly as the law requires of charities, for example in our annual filings. That reporting does not disclose the personal details of individual donors beyond what the law requires.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described here, and as long as our legal, tax, and recordkeeping obligations require. Donation and acknowledgment records are retained for the periods required of a charitable organization. When information is no longer needed, we dispose of it securely. This is consistent with our internal records-retention practices.
How we protect information
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, and we limit access to those who need it to do their work for the mission. Payment information is protected by the security standards of our payment processors. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to safeguard your information and to respond promptly if a problem arises.
We hold information about a person’s faith or association with our work with particular care, because we recognize that in some places this information is sensitive. We do not publish information that could expose a supporter or a person we serve to harm.
Your choices and rights
You are always in control of your relationship with us. You can:
- Unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message we send, or by contacting us.
- Ask what we hold. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct or update information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Ask us to delete information we are not required to keep.
- Manage cookies through your browser, as described above.
To make any of these requests, contact us using the details at the end of this policy. We will respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you unfairly for exercising any of these rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under data-protection law, including the rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information, and to data portability. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Our lawful bases for processing include your consent, our legitimate interest in operating the charity and communicating with supporters, and compliance with our legal obligations. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
If you are a resident of a U.S. state with privacy legislation, you may have rights to know about, access, correct, and delete your personal information, and to opt out of certain uses. We honor these rights as the applicable law provides. We do not sell personal information.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, or the equivalent age in your location. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
Links to other websites
Our site may link to other websites and resources, including our payment platforms and social media pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website you visit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our work, our tools, or the law change. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and, where changes are significant, we will make that clear on the site. Your continued use of the website after an update means you accept the revised policy.
